Overall objective
The Oldnet Program proposes sharing experiences between young people and seniors mediated by use of computers, with workshops in which youths share their knowledge of computers with older people, teaching them how to use computers and the internet.
Oldnet Program's educational proposal relates to social and humanistic development. As well as facilitating digital inclusion for seniors, it allows people from different generations to meet and develop enriching transformations for both sides from these encounters.
Young people and seniors share an unusual experience, swapping roles in the transmission of knowledge, because here it is the young people who are teaching seniors.
In this way, young people leverage their technological skills and devote time to teaching older people to travel new roads toward the infinite possibilities of the digital universe. Seniors are encouraged to adopt an entirely new posture in relation to technology and society. They discover new worlds and realize how much they still can do - and should do - to ensure more quality of life.
Through this experience and sharing, young people develop qualities that are invaluable for healthy maturing and aging: responsibility, organization, flexibility, respect and participative citizenship.
The Program has the merit of promoting a positive approach to aging while mobilizing the community for education and inclusion.
